Remixed Typography

“Pat Benatar - Love is a Battlefield”
This is a piece where I chose three completely different fonts that have visual characteristics that are unique to each - through study, analyze, critique and deconstruction. I combined these three different fonts to create a new “re-mixed” version that combines certain typographic characteristics from each to create a phrase that best emphasized the visual characteristics of this new “re-mixed” treatment.

The three fonts were as follows:
• Kuenstler Script LT Std
• Soulmission
• Turbo_ripped

I combined these fonts to highlight Pat Benatar’s song and create a “remixed” typographic treatment with a sense of feeling and movement.

I created hand formed typography using an object to evoke the material used or the word that best represents the chosen object. I chose to use tea leaves from a teabag, tea stains and the tag from the teabag itself to create the word tea. This is an example of visually textured typographic design.

Beauty Poster

For this piece I designed a poster using the essence of the word “Beauty”. I used the word “Beauty” in the stem of the rose. In each petal I had the word “Beauty” in different languages. For example, there is “Beauty” in Greek, and French (beauté) amongst others. The lines are broken up in segments to symbolize plastic surgery where lines are drawn on the human body for a person to achieve their ideal views of being beautiful.

Editorial - Nixon Magazine

I created a fictitious magazine cover called “NIXON” which features articles on fitness and health. In comparison to current fitness magazines today, I chose to visually make fun of the women’s body image by specifically aiming on the waistline and weight issue.

“Bon Jovi~ Always”

For this piece I incorporated a song with its lyrics into 2 double page spreads. By using Bon Jovi’s lyrics for the song “Always”, I tried to create the effect like the words were bleeding just like the power ballad which describes a relationship that is over and bleeding. Within some of the red drops of blood, I placed some of the lyrics from the song.

Denotation

For this piece I redesigned an existing article from “O Magazine” called “Night Moves”. This article was originally two pages in length. I re-created it as two double page spreads, using the denotative (structured) form of information conveyance. The first spread is about when you close your eyes at night to go to sleep. The second spread is about yoga. The Om symbol is a spiritual symbol of peace in India. The green in the Om symbol was used to represent growth.
